Kernel Days begin Wednesday

WELLS — Kernel Days in Wells will take place Aug. 20-22 with a variety of activities going on for every member of the family.

The festival unofficially kicks off with two events on Aug. 18 and 19, and then officially kicks off Aug. 20 with a party, including free lunch, at Wells Federal Bank.

That evening there will be tractor races and other games, along with a band and fireworks to round up the night.

On Saturday, Aug. 21, there will be a breakfast sponsored by the United Methodist youth group, along with a farmers market, car show and tournaments, among other activities.

At night there will be a street dance at the fire hall.

On Sunday, Aug. 22, there will two breakfast fundraisers, a parade at noon and various entertainment afterward.

There will also be a petting zoo, a talent show and a community worship service, to name a few.

Throughout the weekend there will be inflatables, food stands, the Jaycees beer garden, Lions Bingo, a volleyball tournament and a softball tournament.

The petting zoo will be Aug. 21 and 22.

Wednesday, Aug. 18

11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Wells Library Foundation salad luncheon at the American Legion

Thursday, Aug. 19

5 to 8 p.m.: The Table is Set (place setting contest) at The Haven

7 p.m.: Little Miss Kernel Pageant at USC auditorium

Friday, Aug. 20

10:30 a.m.: Ribbon cutting at Wells Depot

11 a.m.: Kernel Days kickoff party including free lunch at Wells Federal Bank

5 p.m.: Dodgeball tournament on basketball court by the skate park

5 to 8 p.m.: The Table is Set (place setting contest) at The Haven

6 p.m.: Tractor races and events

7 to 11 p.m.: Red Lipstick Band at Bevcomm Stage

9:45 p.m.: Fireworks at Half Moon Park

Saturday, Aug. 21

8 a.m.: United Methodist Church youth group breakfast

8 a.m.: Farmers market at Wells Marketplace Foods parking lot

8 a.m.: Maple Valley Classic Car Show in downtown Wells

8 a.m. to 8 p.m.: A Walk in the Park sponsored by SHIP

9 a.m.: Zumba at the park

10 a.m.: Kids tractor pedal pull at Half Moon Park

10 a.m.: Bocce ball tournament at Half Moon Park, then bean bag tournament

10 a.m.: Food stands at Half Moon Park

Noon: Lions bingo

Noon to 4 p.m.: Big Ben and Brian’s Concertina band at Wells Depot

1 p.m.: Cribbage tournament at American Legion

1 p.m.: Cow-plop bingo and ventriloquist at Half Moon Park

3:30 p.m.: Classic Car Cruise around town

4 p.m.: Raks Sharki at Bevcomm Stage

5 p.m.: Primy My Ride Car Show at The Haven

5 p.m.: Speaker Al Batt at Bevcomm Stage

6:30 p.m.: Spotlight dancers at Bevcomm Stage

8:30 p.m.: Firemen’s street dance at the fire hall, music by IV Play

9:15 p.m.: Outdoor movie: “New in Town” at Bevcomm Stage

Sunday, Aug. 22

8 a.m.: VFW pancake breakfast at the VFW building

8 a.m.: United Methodist youth group breakfast at Half Moon Park

Noon: Parade. Following the parade there will be live performances, Lions Bingo, food stands, Jaycees beer garden, Joah’s Ark Petting Zoo and pony rides, talent show, community worship service.
