St. John’s Lutheran Home Auxiliary met Aug. 16 in St John’s Chapel. Vice president Carol Rask welcomed everyone. Devotions were given by the Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister. Hymns, “I Love to Tell the Story” and “I Need Thee Every Hour,” were sung, accompanied by Becky Nordland.
The next committee meeting for the Oct. 10 fundraiser luncheon will be Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
Secretary Caroline Neale read the minutes of the April meeting. Treasurer Lorraine Schaper gave the treasurer’s report.
Carla Reichel, volunteer coordinator, reported that 796 hours were volunteered in July. Daycare had 23 hours, two You and Me Clubs, and three sing alongs.
St. John’s had 159 entries at the Freeborn County Fair and 45 residents attended the fair. The scarecrows won grand champion and will be going to the Minnesota State Fair.
Carol Rask read the names of residents celebrating August birthdays: Evelyn Vollum, Maurine Adix, Esther Doppelhammer, Fern Good, Bernice O’Neal, Harland Fosness, Arlene Groskreutz, Lola Matson, Stella Kopsing, Russell Wangen, Grace Paulson and Bernice Thompson.
Churches thanked for serving Sunday coffee were: United Methodist of Albert Lea, Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran, Ascension Lutheran and Our Savior’s Lutheran.
Arlene Stene and JoAnn Peterson of Emmons Lutheran WELCA began their program with everyone singing “Beautiful Savior.” After Arlene gave a reading, JoAnn told of relative’s death due to ALS, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” JoAnn told how she and her sisters decided to make the butterfly quilt and pillows which were on display. The quilt will be raffled and the proceeds donated to benefit the ALS Association.
The meeting was adjourned by saying The Lord’s Prayer and singing the table prayer.
Refreshments were provided by St. John’s Dietary Department and residents of Second South.
