Albert Lea Civic Music Scholarship Winners Announced

Albert Lea Civic Music Association announces the 2010 winners for the Jerdet and Wipplinger scholarships. Winners for the Jerdet Summer Music Camp junior high division are Kristin Sandager (Harp/Vocal) — first place, and James Dundas of Wells (Clarinet) — second place. Winners for the Jerdet Summer Music Camp senior high division are Ray Stephenson (Percussion) — first place, and Talia Barber (Baritone/Euphonium) — second place. The Jerdet College Scholarships were awarded to Scott Ness, cello major at Oberlin Conservatory, Oberlin, Ohio — first place and Amy Sandager, organ student at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa — second place. The auditions for Jerdet scholarships took place in May with each participant performing two selections.

The Helen W. Wipplinger Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing organ and piano with the intention of becoming church organists and pianists. This year’s recipients for the organ scholarships are Stuart Behling, Claire Buendorf of Kiester, and Chuck Sandager. Recipients for the piano scholarships are Emma Behling, Claire Bias of Wells, and Amber Klein of Wells. These musicians auditioned in May before a panel of judges. The auditions consist of playing two selections, a hymn and sight reading. All recipients of all scholarships will participate in a student recital in May or June of 2011. This recital is open to the public. These scholarships are available to students in the Albert Lea Civic Music selling area. The new brochures for the 2011 scholarship auditions will be available in January. The next auditions are scheduled for May 2011.
