Demmer event was not billed as ‘rally’

I am writing in response to Mr. Paul Overgaard’s letter published Wednesday.
Mr. Overgaard’s letter claims that the event that occurred last Friday was a “rally.” According to the article published in this paper on Sept. 7, this event was supposed to be a town hall meeting where Rep. Randy Demmer and other candidates would be present to answer questions. I attended this town hall meeting because I currently live in Mr. Demmer’s district, but he has not showed up for meetings I have scheduled with him as a constituent. I find this unacceptable conduct for someone seeking to represent the people of southern Minnesota.
Mr. Overgaard also claims that those of us who asked questions were somehow “rude” and “angry.” This characterization is untrue, and it should be noted that individuals asking questions were harassed and called names by the Demmer supporters.
Further, when I approached Rep. Demmer after the conclusion of the event to ask him about this and to follow up on my previous question, the moderator of the event stepped in before my question was answered, told me that I had to leave, put his hand on my arm and pushed me away. This is no way to treat constituents, regardless of their political affiliation.
Randy Demmer is not the right fit for southern Minnesota. I am not a Walz campaign operative, but I will be supporting Tim Walz — a true leader for southern Minnesota.
