Editorial: What about live games on the site?
Published 7:31 am Wednesday, September 15, 2010
We had mentioned in an editorial prior to football season that the Albert Lea Tribune was intending to show live broadcasts of Albert Lea High School home and away football games this season on our website.
Then we announced a few days later on our sports page that the plan was not going to happen for this season.
Some of you who read the editorial page and not the sports page might have missed that announcement.
We know some people were excited about it, too. So why couldn’t we do it?
The away games were to be provided by other newspaper websites in the Big Nine Conference — like a trade network — but a few other papers opted out of participating in the service. The service provided some really cool programming that made the video area of our site rather user-friendly.
In the meantime, we are retooling our site to show more videos and to provide occasional live broadcasts of news and sports in Albert Lea and its vicinity. We like live!
We appreciate the dedication and the praise our website’s users have provided to us. Our site is on par for viewership with some websites of news outlets in much bigger cities. Our numbers are quite astounding.
Thank you for being patient with us. Our sports broadcasting will become a reality eventually.
