Newman Foley, 89, Albert Lea

Memorial services for Newman Clarence Foley of Albert Lea, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery.

Newman died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. He was 89 years of age.

Newman was born May 7, 1921, in Albert Lea, the son of Clarence and Thea (Narveson) Foley. He was a graduate of Albert Lea High School and the University of Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Barbara (Thompson) on Aug. 24, 1957, in Deerfield, Ill. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea. For over 35 years, Newman was a civil engineer for the Lakehead Pipeline Co.

In his free time he enjoyed trap shooting and was a lifetime member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association. He also enjoyed golf and was a licensed airplane pilot. Newman was very mechanical and held patents on four different projects that he had designed.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Albert Lea, children; Martha Foley of Buffalo Grove, Ill., Tad Foley of Sydney, Australia, and his children Karl and Patrick, Thomas and his wife Pamela Foley of Longwood, Fla., and their children Brad and Nicholas, Kimber and her husband Alan Swenson of Cody, Wyo., and their children Ben, Casey and Maida, Kirk Foley of Friday Harbor, Wash., and his children Jessica, Peter and Matthew. There are eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lola Mae Hill and brother Lyle Foley.

Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers.
