The Tigers girls’ soccer team hasn’t scored in two straight games, losing 1-0 to Rochester Century on Saturday, and 3-0 to Rochester Mayo Monday, but senior Anna Brouwers has surfaced as the team’s top goalkeeper.
“If there’s anything we’ve learned this past week it’s that we have a definite No. 1 goalkeeper now,” Albert Lea head coach Rick Barnhill said. “We’re going to live or die with (Brouwer’s) performance.”
Brouwers saved 29 of Century’s 30 shots on goal Saturday and had another excellent performance Monday night as the Tigers hosted the Spartans. She picked up two losses, though, behind a lack of goal support.
On Monday, the Tigers had quality chances and 12 shots on goal to Mayo’s 20, but failed to score.
“Our first touch on the ball was terrible tonight,” Barnhill said. “We couldn’t control the ball well and had numerous unforced turnovers in the passing game.”
Barnhill said that ninth-grader Anna Anderson struck some accurate shots, though.
The Tigers play again Thursday at 7 p.m. when they host Austin at Hammer Field.
