Brackey shoots low scores for M State Fergus Falls

Tyler Brackey, a 2010 graduate of Albert Lea High School, has quickly become one of the top players for the M State Fergus Falls Spartans golf team this fall.

“Tyler has been a wonderful addition to our golf program on and off the golf course,” Spartans head coach Jason Retzlaff said. “It’s great to coach a young man like Tyler because he is not only an excellent golfer, but he is a tremendous person as well.”

Brackey shot a one-over-par 73 on Sept. 24 at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Willmar, and 163 at the two-day Region 8 and Minnesota College Athletic Conference championship Monday and Tuesday. Brackey’s 163 was one shot shy of qualifying for the national tournament.

“Tyler played very well for us in the region,” Retzlaff said. “His ball striking on (Tuesday) was phenomenal. Although he was one shot shy of qualifying for nationals, we still have hope he will make it as an alternate.”

The National Junior College Athletic Association National Golf Tournament will be held in June 2011 at Chautaugua Golf Course in Chautauqua, N.Y.
