The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers showed again on Friday night why they are the No. 1 team in Minnesota and defending state champions.

The Buccaneers defeated the United South Central (2-4, 2-3 Gopher Valley) football team 61-13 Friday night in Waterville.

“They are a good team,” USC coach Brad Huse said. “They backed it up tonight.”

The WEM offense had a total of 458 yards on the night, while the Rebels offense accumulated 233 yards of offense.

The Buccaneers defense also forced five USC turnovers in the game, while the USC defense forced a WEM fumble.

USC scored twice in the game.

In the second quarter, quarterback Cole Stencel found Jason Huper from seven yards out for the score.

In the fourth quarter, it was quarterback Trey Allis to Alex Grorud from 24 yards out to put another score on the board for USC.

Tyson Morton was the leading rusher for USC as he had 16 carries for 43 yards.

Quarterback Cole Stencel went 7-for-15 with 73 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Not only did the Rebels suffer a loss, but USC also lost its starting quarterback and right tackle on the offensive line to injury during the game.

Huse says that the team now needs to regroup and get ready next week against Maple River.

“We need lick our wounds and regroup and get ready for Maple River next week,” Huse said.
