Freeborn County District Court Judge John A. Chesterman on Monday sentenced 40-year-old Juan Antonio Altamirano to 90 days in jail for striking another man under the chin with a knife during an altercation on West College Street in April.

Altamirano, of Albert Lea, pleaded guilty to fifth-degree assault in August as part of a plea agreement between his lawyer and the Freeborn County Attorney’s Office.

He was originally charged with second-degree assault stemming from the altercation, which started over owed money, according to court documents.
