United South Central football kicker Jannik Rosemeyer connected on a late 32-yard field goal that ended up being the difference in a 16-14 win over the Minnesota Valley Lutheran Chargers Wednesday in New Ulm.

“It was a long time coming,” USC head coach Brad Huse said. “We were close the last three weeks and it was good to get the win.”

The only score to come in the first half of the game was a Tyson Morton three-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that gave USC a 7-0 halftime lead.

The Chargers took the lead in the third on touchdown runs of five and 41 yards to take a 14-7 lead.

In the fourth, USC quarterback Eric Lackey bolted into the end zone from six yards out to pull the Rebels within one at 13-14.

That set the stage for Rosemeyer’s field goal that gave USC the lead and eventually the game at 16-14.

“It was good for Jannik to get the game winning kick,” Huse said.

Lackey led the Rebels in rushing with 32 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown.

Tyson Morton also had seven attempts for 28 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Trey Allis went 2-of-8 with 66 yards passing, while Kyle Baumann had one reception for 64 yards.
