1 person dies in Iowa plane crash

MILFORD, Iowa — One person has died in the crash of a small plane near Milford in northwest Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that the single-engine plane crashed about 3 p.m. Wednesday in southern Dickinson County. One person was found dead at the crash site.

Police didn’t release his name until relatives could be notified.

One area resident says he heard a plane flying low nearby, followed by what sounded like the engine shutting off, then a crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration lists the plane’s owner as Geary D. Gearn of Hereford, Texas. A TV station in Amarillo, Texas, reports that the plane was flying from Minnesota to Amarillo.
