2010 Tribune All-Area volleyball team

1st team
Josie Brackey, junior, Lake Mills
An outside hitter for the state runner-up Lake Mills Bulldogs, Brackey was the team leader in kills (412), digs (254) and serving percentage (95). She also was third on the team with 70 ace serves and fourth with 31 blocks. Brackey was named to the North Iowa All-Conference first team and the Class 2A all-state tournament team.
Morgan Fjelstad, junior, Lake Mills
One of the top setters in the state of Iowa, Morgan Fjelstad accumulated 1,032 set assists this season and 8.5 sets per game. She was named unanimously to the North Iowa All-Conference first team for the second consecutive season and was also named NIC Most Valuable Player. Fjelstad also joined Brackey on the Class 2A all-state tournament team.
Amanda Lampman, senior, Lake Mills
At 5-feet 10-inches tall, Amanda Lampman led all area volleyball players this season with 67 blocks. She was second on the Lake Mills team in kills (309) and in digs (205). She was a senior leader for a team that finished as state runner-up and was ranked as high at No. 6 during the regular season.
Anna Schlaak, junior, NRHEG
Last year’s Tribune Player of the Year, Anna Schlaak was limited by injury this season but still had a team-high 244 kills and three kills per game. Schlaak also led NRHEG in digs (289) and was second on the team in blocks (40). Schlaak is the Panthers’ all-time career leader in kills with 904 through three seasons on varsity.
Kailey Davis, senior, Glenville-Emmons
Named Southeast All-Conference for the third consecutive season and team’s Most Valuable Player, Kailey Davis led all area players in digs (525) and had the second-best serving percentage (96). Davis also had 40 ace serves this season and moved onto the all-area first team after being maned to the second team last season.
Kayla Stenzel, senior, USC
Twice named Gopher Valley All-Conference, USC’s senior captain Kayla Stenzel lead the team in kills (128) for the second consecutive year. As USC’s go-to hitter, Stenzel also had 23 solo blocks and 76 digs at 74 percent. The two-year starter served 90 percent and was a hard worker and big influence on the team, according to coach Jolene Bute.
2nd team
Lindy Pins, senior, Lake Mills
Fundamental and not flashy, Lindy Pins quietly helped Lake Mills win a seventh consecutive North Iowa Conference championship and was named first team All-Conference in the process. Pins finished fourth on the team in kills (169) but was considered the team’s top passer. Pins was the third in area in blocks (44) and had 46 ace serves.
Kaylee Maxon, senior, NRHEG
Senior outside hitter Kaylee Maxon was second on the Panthers in kills (180) and one of the top in the area in kills per game (2.2). She took on a number of roles for NRHEG this season while the team combated injuries and and played in every match. Maxon was third on the team in digs with 99.
Kacie Phillips, senior, NRHEG
Second in the area in set assists (597) with 7.2 assists per game, Phillips helped lead NRHEG to a 17-11 record this season. Phillips also led the Panthers by serving 93 percent with 20 ace serves. Phillips played in every game in all 29 matches this season and chipped in 62 kills, 21 ace blocks and 90 digs.
Alayna Hall, senior, Glenville-Emmons
Senior captain Alayna Hall was named Southeast All-Conference this season and earned the team’s hustle award. She was second on the team in kills (127), tallying 1.8 per game. Hall was also second on the team and are in digs (363) while serving. Hall was Academic All-State this season.
Marielle Schultz, senior, USC
Senior captain for the United South Central Rebels, Marielle Schultz led the team in set assists (240) and serving percentage (98). She had 85 digs this season en route to being named Gopher Valley All-Conference. USC head coach Jolene Bute said that Schultz made USC’s passers look good even when they weren’t on target.
Tayla Sunde, senior, USC
Tayla Sunde started as a utility player last season but was moved to libero and was always willing to sacrifice herself for the team. Sunde was named Gopher Valley All-Conference for leading USC in digs (180) and serving 92 percent. She was a two-year starter for a USC team that went 16-6 and 8-2 in their final 10 matches.
3rd team
Abbey Honsey, senior, Lake Mills
A right side hitter on a team loaded with talent up front, Abbey Honsey became one of Lake Mills’ most fundamental blockers, accumulating 34 solo blocks during the season. She had 121 kills on the season, including three late in the fifth set of the regional championship match that advanced the Bulldogs to the state tournament.
Shelby Kuper, junior, Lake Mills
Junior left side hitter Shelby Kuper didn’t lead Lake Mills in any stat categories, but notched 193 kills this season and became one of the most powerful hitters for the Bulldogs. Kuper jumps well and is explosive, and had 11 kills in the state semifinals match against No. 2-ranked Mediapolis. Kuper was named North Iowa All-Conference honorable mention.
Kalli Van Ryswyk, senior, Glenville-Emmons
Senior middle hitter Kalli Van Ryswyk was one of the top hitters in the area this season, leading the Wolverines with 174 kills and 2.4 kills per game. She was second on her team in blocks (21) and had 77 digs on the year. Van Ryswyk was named Southeast All-Conference honorable mention.
Britney Low, junior, Northwood-Kensett
As Northwood-Kensett’s top hitter, Britney Low notched 131 kills this season and averaged 2.1 per game. She led the Vikings in digs (220), solo blocks (22) and served 86 percent with 19 aces. Low was one of only two Vikings players to start in every match this season.
Courtney Eilertson, junior, Northwood-Kensett
Courtney Eilertson established herself this season as one of the top hitters in the area, knocking down two kills per game and 116 on the season. She had the team’s highest offensive efficiency rate and notched 185 digs on defense — the team’s third most. Eilertson was the team’s top server at 91 percent with 28 aces.
Bethany Sekora, senior, Albert Lea
Albert Lea senior middle hitter Bethany Sekora is All-Area after being named to the second team last season. She helped lead a young, inexperienced Tigers team this season and was named Big Nine All-Conference honorable mention.
