MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Joe Mauer is golden, again.
The Minnesota Twins catcher won his third straight American League Gold Glove award on Tuesday. Mauer was tied for the Major with a .996 fielding percentage, which offset him throwing out a career low 22 percent of attempted base stealers.
The 27-year-old Mauer hit .327 with nine homers and 75 RBIs to help the Twins win the AL Central division for the sixth time in nine seasons.
Mauer is the fourth Twins player to win at least three Gold Gloves. Pitcher Jim Kaat won 11 with the Twins, center fielder Torii Hunter won seven, center fielder Kirby Puckett took home six and third baseman Gary Gaetti won four for Minnesota.
Earl Battey is the only other Twins catcher to win the award. He won it in 1961 and 1962.
