Here are highlights in history for Nov. 16, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1992 — Residents of Northwood, Iowa, were concerned that street reconstruction would result in removal of a historic clock, plus a unique water fountain about a block away. (Note: Nothing actually happened to either item and both are still a part of local life.)
1982 — Advertised interest rates at Albert Lea’s Peoples Savings and Loan Association ranged from 8.446 to 9.85 percent.
1972 — Sidney Slette, of Walters, retired after 45 1/2 years as a rural mail carrier. With a horse he covered a 28-mile route in eight hours. With a vehicle he later did a 58-mile route in five hours.
