Memorial services for Robert D. Dahl of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel. The Rev. Tom Biatek and Rev. Kent Otterman will officiate. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the East Freeborn Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Area Veterans Groups.

Robert died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center. He was 81 years of age.

Robert was born April 23, 1929, in Albert Lea, the son of Rudolph and Olga (Lindahl) Dahl. He attended public school in Albert Lea. Robert served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.

Robert was united in marriage to Marilyn (Chris) Christenson on Aug. 15, 1958, in Albert Lea. He was a member of the United Methodist church and served as an usher. For over 27 years, he was employed by the Farmstead Co. in maintenance. After his retirement, Robert worked for Greenview Services at the Hayward Rest Stop off I-90 for over 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Robert enjoyed woodworking, camping with the family at Old Joe’s, visiting with people, spending time at Helmer Myre State Park, bird watching and especially his time with the grandkids. He had a great sense of humor.

Robert is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Chris) of Albert Lea; children: G.Robert and wife Cathy of Heartwell, Neb., Deb and her husband Jay Hample of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Dan and his wife Paula of Albert Lea; grandchildren include: Megan (Ethan) McMahan, Heather Dahl, Valerie (Matt) Harrell, Amanda Finke, Krysta Hample, Daniel Dahl and Erin Dahl (Justin Dahle); there are two great-grandchildren: Isla McMahan and Jayla Dahle; one special niece, Teri McMullen Barnett; one brother, Duane (Dagmar) Dahl; and sister, Ruth Corn.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Olga Dahl; stepmother, Guida Dahl; sisters: Nancy Dahl and Janice Schmidt; mother-in-law, Margaret Christenson.

As a loving father and husband, Bob always looked after those that he loved. His wit and humor could always put a smile on even the most begrudging face and his laugh was infectious. He will be missed. The light and humor he brought into our lives will never be forgotten. In his own words, “He was a war hero, snappy dresser and all around good guy!”
