School principals to change for realignment preparation

Administrators in the Albert Lea school district will move in January to different schools to coincide with the district realignment.
In the 2011-12 school year, elementary schools will be kindergarten through fifth grade, Southwest Middle School will have sixth- and seventh-graders and Albert Lea High School will house eighth-graders through seniors.
Because of the grades moving, administrators will have to make some adjustments. Southwest Middle School Principal Marsha Langseth will move to the high school and assist Principal Al Root. She will remain there as a member of the high school administrative team.
“Marsha has a lot of experience with programming for the eighth-graders,” Superintendent Mike Funk said.
Lakeview Elementary School Principal Jean Jordan will become Southwest’s principal and will lead the transition of sixth- and seventh-graders to Southwest. Funk said Jordan also has experience with sixth-graders, which will make her a good fit for Southwest.
When the district started to look for someone to take over duties at Lakeview, they knew they needed someone temporarily until they start looking for a permanent position in March. Funk said Steve Lund, a district energy consultant, will be a good fit because he has more than 30 years of administrative experience in Albert Lea’s school district.
“He was a great find for us,” Funk said.
Funk expects a permanent principal to be hired at Lakeview by July 1, 2011. He said moving the administrators on Jan. 1 will help them prepare for the transition of the students and think about which teachers will fit best at each school.
