A 23-year-old Albert Lea woman accused of selling methamphetamine to a drug task force informant on four different occasions pleaded guilty in Freeborn County District Court Thursday to two of the counts as part of a plea agreement.

Victoria Ann Rivera Lopez pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree meth sales, which involved sales within a 90-day period. Two counts of third-degree meth sales were dismissed.

Lopez’s lawyer, Greg Colby, and Assistant Freeborn County Attorney David Walker are recommending Lopez complete a year in the Freeborn County jail after which she will immediately enter into the Minnesota Teen Challenge program, which lasts for at least a year.

Teen Challenge is a long-term faith-based program set up to help teens and adults struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.

The recommendation is a departure from a 68-month presumptive sentence.

Lopez was arrested in May after a traffic stop off of Interstate 35 near the intersection of U.S. Highway 65 and Blake Avenue.

Because she has been in the Freeborn County jail since her arrest, she will have completed the recommended jail term at the end of the month, including credit for good behavior. She will be ordered to go directly to the Teen Challenge program.

According to court documents, one of Lopez’s second-degree sales charges stem from selling 3.4 grams of crystal meth to an informant at the Comfort Inn Hotel in Albert Lea on March 4 for $325.

The second count stems from a sale of 3.9 grams of crystal meth to an informant on the corner of Southeast Marshall Street and Fenton Street.

Lopez was previously convicted of a controlled substance crime — the conviction came in May of 2009 for an offense from 2007.

The second-degree sales charge carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

She is scheduled to be sentenced at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 28.
