Catherine Cashman, 87, Owatonna

Catherine “Katie” J. (Shea) Cashman, of Owatonna, was born into eternal life on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Three Links Care Center in Northfield.
Mass of Christian Burial is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna with the Rev. Edward Mc Grath officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna. Friends may greet the family on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brick – Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road. There will be a 3:45 p.m. Catholic Daughters Rosary at the funeral home on Friday. The visitation will continue one hour before the funeral liturgy at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday. An additional Catholic Daughters Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. at the church on Saturday.
Katie was born the daughter of William P. and Catherine A. (Fitzgerald) Shea on April 6, 1923, in Albert Lea. Katie graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1941. Katie then went on to receive her RN degree from Naeve Hospital in 1945. Katie worked as a nurse at St. Marys Hospital in St. Paul. She was united in marriage to John (Jack) Cashman Sept 30, 1947, at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. Katie was a homemaker raising ten children.
She was devoted to her community through Owatonna Hospital Auxiliary, she was an original member of the Pink Pantry, she loved being part of Meals on Wheels and The Owatonna Women’s club. Katie was a 50-year member of The Catholic Daughters of America. She also served as president of the Centennial Club in 1961 and continued her membership for 50 years. Katie’s motto was the three F’s…..faith, family and friends, which brought her the greatest joy to her life. She loved being with her grandchildren. She loved to share her gift of hospitality. Katie enjoyed reading, playing bridge, the Owatonna Arts center and traveling.
Katie is survived by her children: John P. “Packy” (Kathryn) of Owatonna, Mary Jo “Jody” of St. Paul, Mark (Maria) of Northfield, Ellen (Fred) Johnson of Excelsior, Maeve Cashman of Appelton, Wisc., Meghan Cashman of Charlotte, N.C., Joe ( Katie) Cashman of Maplewood and Katie (Phil) Masterson of Exton, Pa.; grandchildren: Tracy, Aaron, Brianna, Liz, Kelsey, Mike, Shannon, Kevin, Devon, Maureen, Mac, Alli, Jack, Danny, Maeve, Molly, Nicholas, Jack, Catherine and Landers; great-grandchildren: Madilyn, Lucianne, Harrison, Ava , Jaden and Liam; her brother, Bill (Jean) Shea of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Jean, of Arizona.
Katie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack; her precious sons: Kevin and Thomas; special grandson, Peter; and brothers: John, Joe, Francis and Paul.
