David Tandeski, 81, Albert Lea

Memorial Services for David A. Tandeski, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 East Main, Albert Lea. The Rev. Tom Biatek will officiate. Miltary honors will be accorded. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, rural Albert Lea, at a later date. Friends may visit with family one hour before the service at the funeral home.

David died suddenly at his home, as a result of a heart attack on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010. He was 81.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1929, in Grand Forks, N.D., the son of Casmer and Bernice Tandeski.

He graduated from Grand Forks High School. He served our country in the U.S. Army for 18 months at the end of World War II.

He married Lois Olstad in 1953 and to their union Cheryl and Randy were born. They were later divorced.

He continued his education at the University of Minnesota and then became a very articulate self taught mechanical engineer. He worked for Univac in the Twin Cities for several years and then had his own metal work shop for a time. In 1976 he moved to Albert Lea to finish out his engineering career at Scotsman. He retired at the age of 62, having the pride of securing two patents for his inventive designs for ice machines.

He was united in marriage to Irene (Olson) Neitzel on Nov. 25, 1977, at the United Methodist Church of Albert Lea. Together they shared more than 33 years. He enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, camping and in his later years spending time with is buddies playing pool at the Senior Center. He also took a special interest in the holistic, natural method of healing.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; his daughter, Cheryl (Daniel) Dobervich, and daughters:

Rena and Mara of Maplewood; his son, Randall D. Tandeski, of Shoreview; stepson, Jerry Neitzel of Renville; stepdaughter, Debra (Mark) Thompson of Glenwood City, Wis.; stepgrandchildren: Brian and Jeremy Neitzel, Christina Stamer, Doug, Daniel, and Dennis Murray and Darcie Valliant; brother, Ray (Kay) Tandeski; sister, Virginia Goclon; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Adeline Baker, Marie Squires, Marlene Wedin, Howard Olson, Ruth Ann Schneider, Elnora Zeigler, Don Olson, Sonja Sorenson, Dean Olson and Janet Kilman; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Tandeski.
