Editorial: Good job on saving dollars

We like to give credit where credit is due.
The Albert Lea police officers and city leaders were at loggerheads last year about this time over the intent to cut two patrol positions.
This year, the Albert Lea Police Department saved roughly $165,000, which can go back into the city’s general fund. Reasons for the savings are decreased overtime and decreased fuel costs, among others.
Now when city leaders go looking for cuts, it’s not going to be coming from public safety — and that’s a step in the right direction for everybody.
Kudos to city leaders and the police for making this budget season merrier than last. Our fingers are crossed for better budget times ahead, too. Public safety is very important to the residents and businesses of Albert Lea.
