Following the Community Coffee Time, the auxiliary held their monthly meeting. Darlene was able to attend and gave them additional information during the meeting. President Sandy Anderson called the meeting to order and the auxiliary pledge was recited. Anderson also read a prayer. It was announced that the American Legion Auxiliary celebrated its 91st birthday on Nov. 10. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were given and approved. A motion was made and seconded to give $100 to the Community Sewing Group to purchase supplies. The next sewing date was on Dec. 2. Another 14 comfort boxes were sent up to the VA Hospital since the last meeting.

Next on the agenda was the Santa Day/Hospice Tree Lighting/Pot Luck/Bingo Party that was held on Dec. 5 beginning with Santa at 3 p.m. Auxiliary members volunteered to bring cookies to be served along with coffee during that time.

Discussion followed concerning the annual Soup and Pie event that will be held on Jan. 15, 2011. Members volunteered to make the soups and also to serve the pie.

Anderson handed out several handouts to the members and also mentioned about the evening of prayer. For those wanting to participate, at 8 p.m. spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, the troops, citizens and for a return to a Godly nation.

It was decided that they will not hold a December meeting. The next meeting will be held on Jan. 15, 2011, at 9 a.m. With no other business the meeting was adjourned.

Monthly meeting

The Freebom American Legion Auxiliary No. 552 held their monthly meeting on Oct. 16 at the Freeborn American Legion Hall. President Sandy Anderson called the meeting to order. They were honored to have in attendance their district President JoEllen Isenberg and the district Chaplain Pat Miner. The auxiliary pledge was recited by all and a prayer was read by Anderson. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. There were two bills presented and they were approved to pay.

The upcoming Community Coffee Time was discussed and the final plans were put into place. This was held on Nov. 20 from 8 to 10 a.m. They would serve pastries of many varieties along with coffee and juice. This was a free event, and the community was invited to attend.

The Community Sewing Group met on Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. with potluck to follow the sewing. So far they have made: 10 Heart Pillows, three Neck Pillows, seven pairs of non-skid Slippers, and five Quilts. Also made up were 14 Comfort Kits. All of these items are then sent to the Veterans’ Home in Minneapolis.

Next it was discussed to have Anderson send out Veterans Day cards to the Freeborn American Legion members. It was decided that she should do this again this year.

They are still in need of a couple of more members. They lost four members from last year. They have gained a couple new ones but still are in need of a couple more.

The district president then presented the auxiliary with a traveling plaque honoring them with the Irene Martin History Trophy. This plaque will be displayed in the Legion Hall for the upcoming year.

With there being no other business, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be on Nov. 20 following the Community Coffee Time.
