Help fill the gap in Albert Lea

Many more volunteer bell ringers are needed in Albert Lea as the Salvation Army marches toward its 2010 Christmas goal of $186,000.
As of Monday, there were still more than 500 hours of available bell ringing that remained unfilled, according to a news release. The extra hours of bell ringing must be filled in order for the Albert Lea Salvation Army to adequately meet the increased community needs of Freeborn County.
“We are pleading for the help of our neighbors and friends to pitch in and adopt a few hours,” Capt. Jim Brickson said. “This is a great opportunity for people who cannot afford to make a financial donation to The Salvation Army. Bell ringing is the perfect way to contribute. It’s fun, easy and costs nothing.”
The Christmas kettle season runs until Dec. 24, during which time volunteers can ring bells at seven Albert Lea locations Mondays through Saturdays. What is most helpful is having an entire day adopted by individuals, clubs or organizations. There is great need for bell ringers at each location. The Salvation Army and the local merchants have worked hard to make your time volunteering a pleasant experience.
Kettle donations account for a large portion of the Albert Lea Salvation Army’s annual operating budget. These funds gathered during this time help serve many residents Freeborn County every year. Driven by faith The Salvation Army will continue to fill the gap in any community they serve.
To register to bell ring or for more information, either contact the Salvation Army or “register to ring” on line at www.thesalarmy.org/albertlea.
In addition to red kettles, donations to the Albert Lea Salvation Army can be made by sending or dropping off donations to 302 Court St., Albert Lea.
