The Lake Mills-Northwood-Kensett Ducks wrestling team defeated Rochester Century, but lost to Albert Lea to go 1-1 Thursday at Albert Lea.

” I really did not know what to expect coming into tonight because Albert Lea is ranked #6 in the largest class in Minnesota,” LM-NK coach Alex Brandenburg said. “That being said, I was very pleased with the outcome. We wrestled well in both duals.”

In their first match against Rochester Century, Tristan Boehm, Lincoln Boehmer and Noah Irons all won their matches to jump out to an early 16-0 lead.

The Panthers won the next two matches to pull within 16-9.

However, the Ducks went on to win six out of a possible nine matches to earn a 52-21 victory.

In their dual against Albert Lea, LM-NK found themselves down 18-3 but quickly bounced back.

Andy Dahle, Calvin Beal and Blake Huntington all earned win to pull within 18-15.

Albert Lea went on to win the next five matches to take a 44-15 lead.

The Ducks did get a pin from Merrick Harig at heavyweight, but LM-NK fell to Albert Lea 44-21.

Although it was a loss, Brandenburg says he was impressed with the effort his team gave and how they battled.

“I was especially pleased with our aggressiveness against Albert Lea,” Brandenburg said. “Our kids battled hard through the whole matches and did very well in the 3rd period of the matches. Our kids seem to be in pretty good shape. I think we are showing we can be competitive with very high level teams.”
