The victim was reportedly not cooperative with an investigation, so the police were not able to investigate the matter further.

It did not appear that the apparent assault occurred on Hope Lane.

The release stated while officers attempted to trace the victim’s steps, a 30-year-old Albert Lea man was found passed out in a vehicle in the driveway.

The man, Shawn Casey Tope, was on probation and in possession of methamphetamine.

He was arrested for drug possession and is not believed to have been involved in the alleged assault.

Albert Lea Police Chief Dwaine Winkels said Tope has served prison time for conspiracy to manufacture meth.

The address of 621 Hope Lane was also recently at the center of a drug search by the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, the South Central Drug Investigation Unit agents and Albert Lea police officers.

During that search, authorities reportedly found more than 18 grams of meth, cash, a scale and other drug paraphernalia.

No other information had been released as of Friday morning.
