Marvelyn Grinolds, 87, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Marvelyn Lucille Grinolds, 87, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Marvelyn died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center.

Marvelyn Lucille Grinolds was born on Nov. 9, 1923, to Victor and Cecelia (Johnson) Peterson in Mansfield Township. She was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mansfield. Marvelyn grew up on the family farm in rural Mansfield and attended country school. She was united in marriage to Dale Grinolds on Dec. 12, 1941. Dale and Marvelyn farmed in rural Mansfield area for several years, then moved to Clarks Grove, then Albert Lea in the late 1950s. Marvelyn worked at St. John’s Lutheran Home as the head cook for 25 years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea where she was active in circle.  Marvelyn was also a member of the auxiliary for several organizations. She loved cooking, especially baking and found great joy in baking for others. Marvelyn also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Blessed be her memory.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet (Dennis) Brekke, of Bloomington; son, Darnell (Linda) Grinolds of Naples, Fla.; grandsons: Dennis Bakken, Josh and Zack Grinolds; step-granddaughter, Christina Brekke; great-grandsons: Turner Bakken and Derek Cole; great-great-grandchildren: Tay’vonne, René and Rosé Bakken; sister, Ardis Pedersen; sister-in-law, Ann Grinolds; and several nieces and nephews.

Marvelyn was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dale.

Memorials preferred to Zion Lutheran Cemetery, “Peace and Power” or donor’s choice.
