Panthers pounce on Cyclones

MANKATO- The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers boys’ basketball team looked to bounce back after a loss on Tuesday night as they played the St. Clair Cyclones on Wednesday in the Bethany Boys Holiday tournament.
Matt Nafe had 13 points, while Matt Carlson had 12 as the Panthers defeated the Cyclones 59-42 to move on to the Consolation Championship.
NRHEG led by two points going into the break at 28-26 and then pulled away in the second half.
“We held St. Clair to 5 points for the first 13 minutes of the second half to pull away,” NRHEG coach Pat Churchill said. “We pressured more and turned them over a few times to get the run started.”
Michael Drager led St. Clair with 20 points.
The Panthers will play Maple River Thursday in the Consolation Championship at the Bethany Holiday Tournament.
