The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers wrestling team placed 8th Saturday in the 24-team Redwood River Riot tournament in Redwood Falls.

“Overall, our performance certainly could have been better,” Panthers head coach Paul Cyr said. “We had way too many weight classes where we only score one point or did not score at all.”

Dustin Esplan and David Lassahn led the Panthers and 125 and 130 pounds, respectively. Both wrestlers went 4-0 en route to a tournament championship.

“(Esplan) was as dynamic as anyone of our guys have been all season,” Cyr said. “Lassahn was a little bit more workman like, but the results were every bit as good.”

Seth Petranek placed fourth at 189 pounds and Jacob Staloch placed sixth at 145 pounds.
