Here are highlights in history for Dec. 14, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1984 — Patrick T. Flanagan, principal of Janesville High School, would be the new superintendent of schools in Freeborn.

1974 — Uneven patches of ice on Fountain Lake was causing concerns for parents and law enforcement who were encouraging children not to play on the sometimes very thin ice.

1954 — The old gas manufacturing plant owned by Interstate Power Co., located between the railroad tracks on South Broadway Avenue, was torn down.
