Albert Lea wins at Winona
Alyssa Sager had 24 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals Friday as the Albert Lea girls’ basketball team outscored the Winona Winhawks by 16 points in the second half en route to a 72-53 win.
“It’s always important to get that first win,” Tigers head coach Sean Gillam said. “Especially that first Big Nine win.”
The Winhawks (0-2, 0-1 Big Nine) outshot the Tigers (1-2, 1-0) from the field and free throw line, but Albert Lea forced 42 turnovers and only turned the ball over 23 times.
“I can’t say enough about our effort,” Gillam said. “On a long trip we could have easily run out of gas, but we played at a high tempo and a high pace.”
Bryn Woodside scored 17 points with three rebounds and four steals while Skyler Anderson scored 10 points with four rebounds and three steals.
