50 years ago – 1960

The Albert Lea High School basketball team defeated St. Paul Wilson 58-39. Leading the Tigers were Paul Wilke with 39 points and Lowell Syverson with 11.

In the Albert Lea City Recreation Basketball League, Aragon defeated Kate 43-40. Zeke Christianson scored 16 points and Al Brooks 11 for Aragon. Chuck Lindgren led the scoring for Kate with 11 points.

In Border League basketball, the Freeborn Yeoman defeated Emmons 89-44. Gabby Pierce scored 28)points and Bob Dinneen 16 for the Yeoman. Bob Berg scored 22 points for Emmons.

Ron Fiest scored 22 points and Ron Zielie 18 for Wells in their 76-41 victory over Blooming Prairie. Wells improved to a 3-1 season record.

Larry Pence scored 17 points and had 18 rebounds and Don Morris scored 14 points and also had 18 rebounds for Ellendale in their 57-50 Gopher Conference win over Morristown.

Kiester outscored Frost 62-57 behind the 18 point scoring and 18 rebounds by Darryl Meyer.

25 years ago – 1985

The Freeborn High School girls basketball team improved their Border League record to 4-0 with a 64-35 victory over Kiester-Walters. Leading scorers for Freeborn were Teresa Schuster with 18 points, Amy Colvin 15 and Cathy McKean 12. Tia Albers scored 10 points for K-W.

The ALHS hockey team raised their season record to 4-1 with a 6-0 shutout over Princeton. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Steve Nelson and Don Savelkoul with two goals each and Pat Diggins and Mike Kruse one each.

John Shasky scored 13 points and Marc Wilson 12 for the Minnesota Gophers in their 71-59 win over Oklahoma State.

10 years ago – 2000

The ALHS girls hockey team season record dropped to 4-5 after losing to New Ulm 3-2. Laura Hillman and Brittany Arendt scored goals for Albert Lea.

The ALHS bowling team placed ninth at the Minnesota State Tournament. Team members were Callen Seberson, Barb Mosser, Matt Entorf, Steve Barrett, Brandon Boekelman and Joe Squires. Loren Kaiser and Craig Bowman were the coaches.

Award winners for the ALHS volleyball were the following: Aubree Page – Offensive Player of the Year; Ashley Boelter – Pat Nelson Memorial Award; Holly Larson – Defnsive Player of the Year.
