United Methodist Church announces special events

The United Methodist Church announces several special events and services between now and Christmas. Sunday the Chancel Choir and friends will present the Christmas Cantata “Holy Light” by Robert Hobby, with text by Susan Palo Cherwien at the 10:45 am worship service. The Tower Ringers will accompany the choir on several selections. Joyce Shaman will be the soloist, Mark Nechanicky, trombone, Rebekka Crissinger, violin and Todd Peterson, percussion and bass guitar. The song “Celtic Silent Night” will be featured as the benediction that morning.

Sunday Morning Alive — a contemporary service is held at 8:30 a.m.

The final Advent Recital will be held on Tuesday from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. These short organ recitals feature members of the SE Minnesota American Guild of Organists. This week will feature Robert Tewes, organist at Grace Lutheran Church. Attendants are welcome to bring a sack lunch, coffee is provided by the church.

Christmas Eve services will be at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The 4:30 p.m. service will be a service for all, especially those families with young children. There will be a live nativity for the children to participate in. Children wishing to be part of the nativity should arrive at 4:15 p.m. for costuming. As there are no speaking parts, children of all ages are welcome. The traditional service of lessons and carols will be at 7:30 p.m. with the Chancel Choir and Tower Ringers providing the special music. This will be a communion service. All are invited to attend these special services and programs.

On Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, there will be one worship service at 10 a.m.
