Abortion is the taking of a life

Democrat Robin Brown, in her “My Point of View” column, puts forth an argument that big government has no business intruding into the private parts of our lives. Specifically, she does not want government to have a say as to whether a person chooses to have or not have an abortion. While I am also not a fan of big government, I contend that Brown is wrong on this important issue. She elects to use such terms as “anti-choice,” “personal decisions,” “reproductive health,” “safe, legal termination of a pregnancy” and “private parts of our lives.”
Most moral Americans accept the fact that human life begins at conception, and that an abortion destroys that life. Further, less than 10 percent of all abortions performed in this country are done to save the life of the mother. The vast majority are done for the “emotional health and well-being of the mother,” with many using the excuse that “it just wasn’t the right time to have a child.”
The Supreme Court, in 1973, legalized abortion in the United States. Yes, it is legal to have an abortion. However, beyond legal versus illegal, there is also right versus wrong. And, the majority of abortions are performed for the wrong reasons.
One of the basic rights afforded by our Constitution is the right to life.
