The Albert Lea Figure Skating Club is seeking alumni members to perform in the club’s 50th Anniversary Show “Celebration” March 19-20 at the Albert Lea City Arena.

This show marks a significant milestone in the club’s history and alumni members can play an important part in the performance. Four alumni members performed in the 2010 show, gaining much applause from the audience and showing that skating can be a lifetime sport.

Practices for the alumni number will be held at 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. on Sundays, starting Jan. 23, on the red rink at the city arena. Detailed schedules will be available at the first practice.

Participation in this event is free for alumni members, though they need to sign liability waivers, which will be available at practices.

The club encourages all alumni members to attend the 50th show and receive recognition, whether performing in the show, skating around the perimeter or simply standing up in the audience.

“This is a chance for alumni skaters to reunite with friends and have fun again on the ice. Whether it’s been just a year or many years since they skated with the club, we would love to see our alumni skaters back with the club for this celebration,” said Mary Beth Heimendinger, club president.

For more information, alumni skaters may e-mail Heimendinger at  hbducklips@yahoo.com or call figure skating coach Carol Colstrup at 373-4447.

Tickets for the 50th show go on sale in February. Show times are 7 p.m. Saturday, March 19, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 20. The club will also be selling 50th anniversary commemorative books.
