Betty Jean (Loge) Gudmonson was born on Aug. 28, 1927, in Blue Earth to parents Hans and Mildred (Shuttleworth) Loge. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, and was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Betty attended schools in Blue Earth and Albert Lea, also.

On May 30, 1948, Betty was united in marriage with Vernon Gudmonson at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The couple made their home in rural Scarville, Iowa, where Vernon farmed and Betty loved being a farm wife. The couple sold Watkins products for a number of years, enjoying neighborhood picnics, going dancing, and attending the Iowa State Fair.

Betty was so proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As the grandchildren were growing up, Betty and Vernon attended as many of their sporting and FFA activities as they could. In later years, the couple kept up to date on the happenings in Lake Mills through the window of their car on Main Street, or by what they heard at The Grand Café.

Betty was well known for her wonderful sugar cookies and donuts, both made from scratch. The couple would take their items to the local farmers market, as well as baked for people that called to place special orders. Honorary pallbearers will be everyone who enjoyed Betty’s sugar cookies.

She will be missed by her family including her husband, Vernon; two sons: Duane (Judy) Gudmonson and Dennis (Kris) Gudmonson, all of Lake Mills, Iowa; four grandchildren: Cory (Jenny) Gudmonson of Nicollet, Lenise (Ryan) Kollasch of Algona, Iowa, Sarah (Tyler) Roelfs of Iowa City, Iowa, and Andy (Lindsey) Gudmonson of Lake Mills, Iowa; and four great-grandchildren: Caden Kollasch, Austin Kollasch, London Roelfs, and Karson Gudmonson. Betty is also survived by three siblings: Ann (Lyle) Hanson of Albert Lea, Gene (Ila) Loge of Albert Lea and Terry (Barb) Loge of El Paso, Texas; and by three sister-in-laws: Donna Loge of Albert Lea, Deloris Loge of Alexandria and Pat Pederson of Albert Lea; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers: Mike Loge, Marion Loge, Bill Loge and Andy Loge.
