James Wayne, 89, Ellendale

Celebration of life for James C. Wayne, 89, of Ellendale, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Clarks Grove. The Rev. Jamie Cameron will officiate. James died on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at the Parkview Care Center in Wells of congestive heart failure.

James Clarence Wayne was born on the family farm near Ellendale on Jan. 17, 1921, the son of Anton J. and Minnie (Frederickson) Wayne. He was one of six children which included Ralph, Florence, Don, John and Milton. Jim lived his entire life on or near the Wayne family farm in Bath township near Ellendale. It was known as Grand View Farm. He was united in marriage to Velma Eileen Jahn on Dec. 12, 1945, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. Jim loved to farm and work with his registered Holstein dairy cattle. He participated in football and basketball in high school and enjoyed watching all sports on TV throughout his life. Jim was involved in various county and church activities including teaching Sunday School at the First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove for 18 years. Jim and Velma enjoyed traveling south for the winter for 35 years. They also enjoyed traveling during the summer months in their motor home, visiting various parks and being campground hosts at the Jay Cooke State Park.

Survivors include his loving wife, Velma, of 65 years; three children: Robert (Lisa) Wayne, of Ellendale, Rebecca (Robert) Clark, of Stillwater, and Milton (Margo) Wayne, of Ellendale; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister.
