Arrest made in alleged Lakeside Café robbery

Albert Lea police and Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 21-year-old rural Albert Lea man Tuesday evening in connection to the alleged robbery of Lakeside Cafe & Creamery in June.

The man’s name has not yet been released.

According to an Albert Lea Police Department news release, there was evidence recovered from the scene of the robbery that linked the man to the crime.

During the robbery June 18, an unarmed masked man reportedly entered the building through an unlocked back door at the restaurant, 408 Bridge Ave., walked up to the register, pushed an employee that was nearby and then took an undisclosed amount of money.

The man was described to police as wearing a black nylon mask, a tan sweatshirt with the hood up, and plaid shorts.

The news release states the man arrested is expected to be charged with simple robbery in Freeborn County District Court Wednesday.
