Army Lt. Col. Glen L. Schumann served as a support staff member during the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on Jan. 8. The support staff was composed of soldiers and Department of Defense civilians from throughout the Army. The nationally-televised football game is sponsored by the U.S. Army.

The staff support members performed duties that ranged from coordinating events with players and soldier-heroes to providing media coordination, hotel accommodations and organizing and orchestrating pre-game activities.

This was the Army’s 11th year as sponsor of the high school all-star game that pits the 90 best players in the nation against each other in an East versus West contest. In this year’s match-up, the East team managed to outscore the West team 13-10, witnessed by a bowl-record crowd of 37,893 at the Alamodome.

Schumann is chief of the Readiness Division assigned to the U.S. Army Accessions Command at Fort Knox, Ky. The lieutenant colonel has served in the military for more than 29 years.

He is the son of Leslie M. Schumann of Watertown, Wis.

His wife, Diane, is the daughter of Marvin and Lois Christiansen of 67th Ave., Hartland.

The colonel and his wife have daughters named Nicole Gable of Baltimore, Md.; Britla Gilbert of Warrenton, Va.; Kari Schumann of New York, N.Y.; Angela Huse of Eau Claire, Wis.; Tresa Schumann of Columbia, Md.; and one stepdaughter, Teri Thiele, of Story City, Iowa.

He graduated in 1967 from Watertown High School, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1972 from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
