Marion Doerr, 90, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Marion P. Doerr, 90, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of St. Theodore. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Marion died on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Thorne Crest.

Marion P. Doerr was born on Feb.18, 1920, in Wells. She grew up there and attended St. Casmir’s Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Wells High School. On June 4, 1945, Marion was married to James R. Doerr in Wells. They lived in Albert Lea, moving to Blue Earth in 1974. Marion worked for J. C. Penney’s for thirty years, and then became a realtor. She worked for Countrywide in Albert Lea, and then for Jim Firkins Real Estate in Blue Earth from 1974-1984. She was the State President of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary from 1960-61, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Wa-Tan-Ye Service Club. Marion enjoyed oil painting, reading and playing bridge. She volunteered for the St. Peter and Paul mission trip to Mississippi in 1978. She loved camping and spending time at Bass Lake. She particularly loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Carol (Wayne) Helgerson of Corpus Christi, Texas, Ki (Warren) Amundson of Albert Lea, Mary (Doug) Sublet of Mankato and Robert (Cindy) Doerr of St. Francis; grandchildren: Mandi (Jason) Fine, Cassie (Jorge) Muñoz, Joseph (Cari) Helgerson, Jesse Amundson and special friend Chelsea Walsh, Ashley Doerr, Scott Helgerson and Matthew and Jamie Michaelson; great-grandchildren: Liliana Muñoz, Tyler Helgerson, Kevin Doerr, Tyler Michaelson and Ryan Helgerson; sister, Bernice Luse of Davenport, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents: Herman and Catherine Seedorf; her husband, James Doerr; and her sister, Helen Wainscott.
