One of two young men found in Albert Lea earlier this month with property stolen from multiple vehicles in Rochester pleaded not guilty to his charges Monday in Freeborn County District Court.

Shane Lawrence Williams, 19, of Rochester pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of receiving stolen property — one count involving a handgun and one count involving property with a value between $1,000 and $5,000.

Williams, through his public defender Kevin Riha, has requested a speedy jury trial, anticipated to last two days.

He and co-defendant Jordan Scott Hoffmann, 18, also of Rochester, were arrested in Albert Lea Jan. 10 after police received a call of a suspicious vehicle on East Main Street.

After scanning the license plate number on the car, officers learned that a missing teenage girl may also be in the car.

Police ultimately found the car in the Walmart parking lot and stopped it in the parking lot of the nearby strip mall.

Three teenage girls — two of which were runaways — were in the car with Williams and Hoffmann. One of those young women had an outstanding warrant.

Police found multiple items including a .45 caliber handgun, numerous iPods, GPS devices, DVD players, knives, car chargers, a camera and a projector, among others.

The items were reportedly stolen from vehicles parked near the Chateau Theater in Rochester.

The group was going to pawn the stolen items and go to California.

Hoffmann, who also appeared in court Monday, has not yet entered a plea. His public defender, Stephen Erickson, said he plans to contest the probable cause behind Hoffmann’s first count of receiving stolen property, which involves the handgun.
