It is sad to see places where a few trees remain from the grove that once surrounded a farmstead. It makes a motorist ponder the memories that families probably shared while living at that location, now vacant, quiet and covered in snow. But it isn’t often that the mailbox outlives the house, the barn and all the outbuildings, as is the case with this place on Freeborn County Road 35 in Newry Township. And it looks like quite the snowplow-proof contraption holding up the mailbox. Hmm. Does anyone still get mail there?
