FARIBAULT- Albert Lea Tigers’ girls basketball coach Sean Gilliam has preached patience to his team this season as they learn to play a run and gun type of basketball.

On Friday night, that patience payed off.

The Albert Lea Tigers girls’ basketball team racked up 82 points, which sets the Albert Lea girls basketball school record for most points scored in a game, as the Tigers defeated the Faribault Falcons 82-54 Friday in Faribault.

The previous record for most points scored in a game was 80 points set in 2006 against Mankato West.

The win ends a seven-game losing streak for the Tigers.

Albert Lea shot 39.5 percent from the field and went a sizzling 16-of-18 from the free throw line.

“I think we had 15-20 assists tonight and that makes a difference,” Albert Lea coach Sean Gilliam said.

Alyssa Sager dominated for Albert Lea as she filled up the box score with 25 points, seven rebounds, six assists, five blocks and eight steals.

Taylor Friehl was the other Tiger in double figures as she had 14 points on the night.

Albert Lea is back in action on Tuesday as they host the Rochester John Marshall Rockets.
