Tigers defeat Wildcats

Four different Tigers scored goals on Monday, while Sydney Conley recorded 30 saves to earn the win as the Albert Lea Tigers girls’ hockey team defeated the Dodge County Wildcats 4-2.

“It’s a big win for us, Dodge County has been playing very good hockey,” AL coach Paul Willett said. “We didn’t play our best hockey, but we played smart and were able to gut out a win.”

Mariah Leach scored the games first goal at the 13:51 mark to put Albert Lea up 1-0 after the first period.

In the second, Dodge County tied the score at 1-1 with a Kortney Kleber goal.

The tie wouldn’t last as over the next six minutes, Albert Lea would net three goals to bust the game open at 4-1.

Kelsey Thomas, Megan Pulley and Sophia Jepson all netted goals in a three goal second period.

Dodge County’s Kortney Kleber netted her second goal in the third period at the 5:07 mark to cut the lead down to 4-2.

Albert Lea is in action on Tuesday at Austin and then hosts Mankato West on Thursday.
