Eric Carlson had a hand in each goal Satruday as the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team beat the Red Wing Wingers 3-2 at City Arena.
The much-needed win was the Tigers’ (10-6, 5-2 Section 1A) second in six games since Dec. 30 after facing a stretch of games against state’s and Big Nine Conference’s top teams.
The Tigers’ Carlson scored two minutes and one second into the first period off a Larry Olson assist to put Albert Lea ahead 1-0 early.
Olson gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead with a goal 10:22 into the third period off a Carlson assist, and Carlson added another goal 46 seconds later to pull Albert Lea ahead 3-0.
The Wingers (3-11, 0-4) staged a late rally, though, as Mike Stegora scored power-play goal at 12:40 in the third and Austin Anderson scored at 14:18 to pull Red Wing within 3-2.
The Tigers were able to hold the Wingers scoreless over the final 2 1/2 minutes to notch the victory.
The Tigers play again at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Owatonna (5-10, 2-4 Big Nine) at City Arena.
