Bulldogs top Panthers

LAKE MILLS, Iowa — Tyler Rice made four 3-pointers in the first quarter Monday as the Lake Mills Bulldogs boys’ basketball team rolled to a 71-55 win over Central Springs here in the Class 2A District 7 quarterfinal game.
Rice tied for a game high with 19 points and helped the Bulldogs (18-4) finish the first on a 13-0 run and build a 26-15 lead. The Bulldogs led 43-22 at halftime.
“Offensively, we played well,” Bulldogs coach Kyle Menke said. “It was great to have four guys in double figures.”
Those four were Rice, Marcus Gaskill who had 19 points and 10 rebounds, Tim Brandt with 13 and Dylan Davis with 11. Alex Grunhovd dished out a game-high 15 assists.
Central Springs outscored the Bulldogs, who shot 11-for-13 from the free throw line, 33-28 in the second half. The Bulldogs played mostly reserves through the game’s final four minutes.
The No. 2-seeded Bulldogs play again in the district semifinals against Forest City at 7 p.m. Thursday in Lake Mills.
