Funeral services for Charles John Alberts, age 80, of Albert Lea will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Bob Weniger will officiate. Interment will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.

Charles died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society.
Charles John Alberts was born on July 29, 1930, to John and Minnie (Ennenga) Alberts in Buffalo Center, Iowa. He grew up in Buffalo Center and graduated from Buffalo Center High School. He served his country in Germany during the Korean Conflict. On Jan. 28, 1961, Charles was united in marriage to Darlene Engstrom in Minneapolis. Charles worked in road construction as a heavy equipment operator. In 1974 the family moved to Albert Lea. Charles enjoyed reading newspapers, farm toy collecting and took great pride in caring for his lawn and vehicles. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene of Albert Lea; son, Jeffrey (Jody) Alberts of Minneapolis; daughter, Amy (Randy) Andersen of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Tia (Jason) O’Leary, Karlee Andersen, Jessica Alberts, Josi Alberts and Parker Andersen; great-grandchildren, Jazmyn O’Leary and Meadow O’Leary; brother, Gary (Pat) Alberts of West Bend, Iowa; sisters, Vera Bronleewe of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Joanne Stark of Fridley; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Cindy Jo; grandchild, Tera Andersen; and brothers-in-law, Don Stark and Bob Bronleewe.
