‘Love Letters’ starts Wednesday

The Albert Lea Community Theatre presents the two-person play, “Love Letters,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. The performance stars Glen and Pat Parsons. Single admission is $14 adults and $10 students. Check the box office for season ticket holder rates/reimbursements.

Sheriff’s salary hearing Thursday

Sheriff Bob Kindler and Freeborn County will face off in Freeborn County District Court at 1 p.m. Thursday. Kindler is appealing his $75,000 salary for 2011, which the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners set in December. That pay rate represents a 9.25 percent reduction from Kindler’s base salary for 2010, when he was the detective supervisor in the Sheriff’s Office and an overall salary reduction of more than 15 percent when overtime is added.

Progress Edition is this Sunday

The Albert Lea Tribune’s 2011 Progress Edition hits the streets in the Sunday edition. The theme this year is “Everyday Heroes.” Tribune Managing Editor Tim Engstrom said the paper has a big plop factor — the noise made when you plop it on a table. And it looks entirely different from any prior Progress Edition. The five sections are Education, Neighbors, Business, Community and People, and the publication is filled with people you know and many people worth getting to know.

Albert Lea individual wrestlers look to join team at state

The Albert Lea wrestling team is already going to the state tournament, but individual wrestlers will try and advance to state Friday and Saturday in the Section 1AAA individual tournament at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. Albert Lea will be competitive in nearly every weight class and hopes to advance around 10 wrestlers to the state tournament March 2.
