A 40-year-old self-described “monster” who turned himself into police earlier this month has been charged in Faribault County District Court with six felony counts of criminal sexual conduct.

According to court records, Jose Luis Perales, of Wells, has been charged with four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

He is accused of inappropriate behavior, including fondling and intercourse with people ages 16 and younger.

Perales was arrested after he turned himself into the Wells Police Department with his wife.

Court documents state during that incident Perales handed an officer at the police station some prescription bottles, saying he would need them in jail. He reportedly told the officer “he had done something horrible” and that he wanted to go to jail.

Perales’ wife described him as “an animal” to the officer and told the officer that she wanted her husband to turn himself in.

During a later interview with an officer, Perales allegedly admitted to the sexual abuse, according to court documents.

One of the alleged victims told police Perales would make her watch porn movies before the acts would take place.

The brothers of one of the alleged victims told police the abuse had been going on for years.

Perales remains in custody at the Faribault County jail. To be released, he has to pay either $10,000 cash or post a bond of $100,000.

He must also have no contact with the alleged victims, have no alcohol or controlled-substance use and submit to random testing, among other conditions.

The first-degree counts carry a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine.

The second-degree charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $35,000, and the fourth-degree charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
