Marilyn Abbe, 81, Alden

Funeral services for Marilyn Louise Abbe, 81, of Alden will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gregory Ofsdahl will officiate. Marilyn died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society.

Marilyn Louise Abbe was born on Aug. 1, 1929, to Elmer and Sylvia (McCormick) DeRaad. She grew up in the Hollandale area and attended grade school in Hollandale and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1949. On Dec. 29, 1952, Marilyn was united in marriage to Bernard Abbe at Grace Lutheran Church in Alden. Marilyn took great pride in being a homemaker and enjoyed canning, baking, gardening, sewing and needlework. She was an active member of Alden Redeemer Lutheran Church. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards, going to dances and listening to music. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and treasured the time spent with her family.

Survivors include her children: Darlene Olson of Albert Lea, LeeAnn (Charles) Millington of Le Center, Steven Abbe of Alden, Jeannette Abbe of Albert Lea and special friend, Herbert Paulson, Jannelle (Michael) Fischer of Conger and Charlotte (William) Banton of Alden; grandchildren: Michelle (Alex) Garcia of Kyle, Texas, Mitchell Olson of Albert Lea, Derrick Fischer of Conger and Bryce Banton of Alden; step-grandchildren: Tyler Millington and Bethany Millington of Kilkenny; great-grandchildren: Isabella, Noah and Brayden Garcia of Kyle, Texas; sisters: Nora Carey of Albert Lea and Shirley Stundahl of Austin; brothers-in-law: Harry Vinge and Edwin Snider; and sister-in-law, Lillian DeRaad.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; sisters, Helen Waltz, Lillian Snider, Starlene Anderson and Gloria Vinge; brothers, Delbert DeRaad and Merrell DeRaad; and son-in-law, Douglas Olson.

We have been blessed to have had a wonderful, loving mother. You have left a deep imprint in each of our lives that will be carried on throughout time.
