Ovrebo, Rebels rally in 2nd half

WELLS — Katie Ovrebo had all 13 of her points in the second half Friday as the United South Central girls’ basketball team beat the Blooming Prairie Blossoms 52-36 in Wells.

Trailing 18-17 at halftime, the Rebels (15-5, 11-1 Gopher) outscored the Blossoms (9-10, 7-5) 32-18 in the second half to remain tied with New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (17-3, 12-1) atop the Gopher Conference.

“We were sluggish in the first half,” Rebels head coach Stu Hendrickson said. “We played with much more energy and passion in the second half.”

Hendrickson said the Rebels led by as many as eight points in the first half before hitting a wall.

Kayla Stenzel had eight points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Rebels, and Val Sahr chipped in 10 points.

Kristie Ovrebo scored nine points and Amanda Allis had 10.

The Rebels play again at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against section opponent Blue Earth (9-5, 2-3 South Central).
